Jamie and I had done a bunch of touring together - both headlining tours and supporting Beck. During the time supporting Beck, we had gotten to know Justin Stanley, Beck's guitarist, and Brian Lebarton, his keyboardist. Justin has an amazing studio in Sherman Oaks, and invited Jamie to come down and work with him. 

 

A good portion of this album was co-written with Mocky, which is where the soul and jazz influence comes from... Jamie is an electronic genius and Max MSP head and had coded a five channel discrete looping system that he had road-tested when we were out supporting Multiply.
